First of all you have to know that arriving in Lobitos is a pretty long trip. You have to spend many hours sat on differents planes, wait for buses and spend even more hours seated. You sweat and you eat dust, but as many people say, the longer the journey the better the arrival and in the case of Lobitos it’s so true !
I have been in Lobitos for six days now and I have already met so many people and lived so many adventures. It would be too long a story to tell you all of them so I’m going to tell you only one. In my opinion this story is a typical example of what the Waves for Devlopment experience is.
Almost everyday we wake up early in the morning to go for a surf. We left the « waves house » at 6 :00 pm and walked with the sunrise for 20 minutes to a surf spot. We were almost alone in the line up. We surfed good waves for a few hours and when got too hungry we walked back. During this walk we saw about 15 Lobiteno fishermen on the beach who were pulling up a boat out of the water with a simple rope. Although we were tired and hungry we decided to help them. We just put our boards on the sand and we grabbed the rope and pulled with the Lobitos fishermen. After 15 minutes the boat was safe on the beach. The fishermen thanked us a lot and we continued our walk back.
That’s the Lobitos experience, surf good waves and live with the locals.
