Today we worked on some of the Peruvian people’s houses in Lobitos. We were split into two groups. One half went to paint a house and the other half went to help put cement floors in two homes. I painted the first half of the time and we painted the house a beautiful sky blue.
When we were finished painting, I went to the group who were working with cement. I helped, but it was really hard work. When it hit 12 noon, we left for lunch with half the floor done!
At lunch we had ceviche for an appetizer and for the main course, papa a la huacallina which is green rice and chicken. I couldn’t finish because I got so full with the ceviche, but it was still good.
After lunch we went to la tienda (the store) to get snacks. I got cocoa, the most common thing to drink. We brought our snacks back to the hostel for siesta time.
For the next part of the day we taught and English class and surfed. We taught little kids who knew only a bit of English. We started off by showing the kids a few words by acting them out. Like for sand, Fama picked up a handful of sand and for surfing, I pretended to surf. Then some of the children played duck, duck, goose with Ms. Dye and Fama. The rest of us went into small groups with other children to teach more English. My group were speaking in full sentences when we were done!
When the lesson was over, we all hit the waves. The boys did great again. Only Ms. Dye, Fama and I tried to surf while the others swam. It was difficult because the waves were so strong.
Before our dinner, we had our meeting and Madison and I were the leaders. We used a heart-shaped stone that Maya found as our talking piece. The meeting was very positive, but the best part of the night was after dinner when we played Mafia, which we renamed Cartel. It was so much fun and everyone liked playing. People could not stop laughing and it was fun trying to find out who the bad guys were.
