El Nino is coming. Now what?
04 Dec 2015by Dave AaboThis El Nino phenomena is setting up to be a big one. Perhaps it will even be more intense than the 97-98. It’s something that we’ve thought a lot about and played an integral role in the local meetings happening in Lobitos. So what does it all mean? Well, we’re expecting a good amount of rain. Without any paved roads into Lobitos, that will affect access. With increased rain, homes with holes in the roof will get wet. The situation gets even more complicated for those families with dirt floors. Increased runoff can cause problems if not directed adequately. The good news is that never has the community been more ready. We plan on sharing our experiences and sticking with our beloved friends and family in Lobitos. The WAVES Peru team will focus on our competencies in the education realm. Provided safety can be assured for traveling volunteers, we will continue to offer volunteer experiences for travelers to Lobitos through the organization.
