Role of the Chapter

What Does Being a Chapter Mean?

Each WAVES Corps Chapter is a critical link in a systematic movement to enrich lives and deliver development solutions in and around under-resourced coastal communities.  Chapter membership also plays a critical role in the strategic direction of the organization. WAVES is an amalgamation of people and volunteers from all over the world who are using surfing as a tool for sustainable development.  Volunteers, independent and/or chapter members, provide input and the fuel for improving programming and community impact.

Students interested in a specific program can start a campus chapter at any undergraduate or graduate university where a WAVES Corps entity has potential for being established. Employees can form a corporate volunteer chapter. Currently there are legal not-for-profit organizations in the US, Peru and Switzerland. The chapter makes a commitment to go on at least one mission a year in conjunction with WAVES’ approved partners.  In-country staff prepare and maintain the ongoing presence and projects. Community relationships, trust and administration is ensured through proper training for community leaders.
