Epic swell in da Lob
04 Nov 2011by WAVES VolunteerHi Folks,
It’s Pim (the new WAVES Volunteer Coordinator) here! Just wanted to give you the low down on the surf situation in Lobitos (or da Lob as some call it). The Southern Pacific decided to treat me on a much appreciated welcoming gift. The swell’s been up all week and by the looks of it (http://www.olasperu.com/reporte.php), it’s going to remain like this for the whole of next week as well. Got to love the back to back to back to back (you’ll catch my drift) swells! All the various breaks around Lobitos have excellent sandbars at the moment, so there’s something out there for everyone. The point’s been mechanically pumping out barrels, while Piscinas and Generales provide us with fun cruisy rides. Lately, I’ve seen a lot of sheepish grins around town. Always a good sign!
We’ve been doing dawn patrol here at the WAVES house, stumbling around in the dark house, walking full anticipation through the dark across the still dormant town. From the viewing platform we can just distinguish the whitewater coming of the lines peeling down the sandbar. Paddling out in the twilight it still hard to see what the ocean is going to dish out today, but soon the first rays of light appear on the horizon and the head high sets reveal themselves to us. While we ride our first waves the sun comes up over the hills surrounding Lobitos and so another day in paradise begins… That’s how simple and beautiful life can be, so come and join us in Lobitos. The people are friendly and the waves are insane…
Hope to see you soon!
