A few parting words...april 2011
15 Apr 2011by WAVES Volunteermy two weeks in lobitos are officially over tomorrow. i just wanted to end with a few stereotypes i have deduced from the people i have met here. i never would have expected lobitos to be quite the crossroads. here in the house, i have learned that the dutch put chocolate sprinkles on everything (genius), the swiss not only speak french beautifully, have great manners, and are quite efficient, but are also capable of doubling their bowling scores after just a few beers, the brazilians (or at least the one here) are just good at everything-soccer, surfing, skateboarding, capoeira, bowling, etc etc and have the most amazing music i have ever heard, the scottish (or at least the one here) also speak french beautifully and are excellent, worldly cooks, and finally, the peruvians are extremely welcoming, hospitable and chevre (you will have to come to lobitos to learn what that means).
it breaks my heart every time a local asks me when i will return because unfortunately, my vacation for 2011 is already exhausted, but i am confident that more volunteers will pass through these doors and create more memories with new, unforgettable friends.
hasta pronto – jen gonzalez
